I think this is truly his talent, and that is why I would choose Vol. Tarantino's films are more about dialogue. Yes, he uses violence in his movies, but not to anywhere near the extent that a lot of people make it out to be. Contrary to what most people feel, I think that Tarantino is not a violent filmmaker. However I think if i had to choose, I'd go for Vol. The first one is a brilliant symphony of perfectly choreographed kung-fu fight scenes, and stylized violence, whereas the other, is more of a dialogue-driven character study, with more suspense, and more backstory, than there are blood and guts. It's hard deciding between the two, because (although they were originally meant to be a single movie) they are so vastly different. Same thing applies to Kill Bill, the only difference is that the studios split it up in between the festival screenings and the theatrical release, rather than between the theatrical release and the home viewing release. But you still watch both tapes back to back, because you need both to get the whole story. Think of it this way: when Titanic or Braveheart came out on VHS, they were too big to fit on a single tape, so you had to buy two tapes to get the full movie. The Whole Bloody Affair is the definitive version of the movie, but since all we have right now is two "volumes" of a single story, I think it needs to be considered as such: a single story, therefore a single film. 1" the entire second half of the story is completely changed. ![]() By placing the revelation at the end of "Vol. I love Kill Bill but I can't wait to experience the gravitas of the final confrontation (and revelation) as it was conceived by Tarantino. In fact, Vols 1 & 2 are still altered (and in my opinion, crippled) versions of the true film that screened at Cannes and a few other festivals. It needs to be considered as a single film because that was Tarantino's intention. ![]()
